Project overview
The Happy Hearts Project is a community outreach initiative of the Rotary Club of Makati Business District (RCMBD) designed to support children from underserved communities in Metro Manila through a combination of nutrition, education, meaningful interaction, and essential assistance.
The project brings together Rotarians, volunteers, community organizations, and corporate partners for a day dedicated to children whose families face significant economic hardship and food insecurity.
Rather than focusing solely on the distribution of food and supplies, Happy Hearts is designed as an engaging Rotary service experience where volunteers spend meaningful time with the children.
The program begins with a nutritious meal for every participating child, addressing an immediate need while creating an opportunity to promote healthy eating and proper nutrition. This is followed by interactive educational activities, games, arts and crafts, and creative workshops designed to encourage learning, teamwork, confidence, and social interaction.
Rotarians and volunteers participate directly in the activities, giving children the opportunity to interact with mentors and positive role models in a welcoming and supportive environment.
At the conclusion of the program, each child receives a Happy Hearts Family Bag containing food staples, hygiene products, school materials, and other basic necessities that can be shared with their family.
Proposed Project Objectives
- Provide nutritious meals to approximately 300 underserved children.
- Promote literacy, creativity, health, hygiene, and positive social interaction through educational activities.
- Provide participating families with essential food and household supplies.
- Create opportunities for hands-on Rotary service, particularly involving Rotarians, Rotaractors, Interactors, volunteers, and corporate partners.
- Develop Happy Hearts into a repeatable RCMBD community program that can be implemented in different communities with local partners.
The project can align particularly well with Rotary's areas of focus in Maternal and Child Health, Basic Education and Literacy, and Community Economic Development, while supporting RCMBD's existing priorities in nutrition and education.
Happy Hearts can therefore evolve from a one-day feeding activity into a recognizable RCMBD service program:
Feed. Learn. Play. Give. Connect.
One day may be short, but for hundreds of children it can provide a nutritious meal, an opportunity to learn, essential supplies for their families, and the experience of a community showing that they matter.
